You invested in beautiful new floors — now keep them looking great. Our care guide covers hardwood, tile, LVP, and laminate maintenance tips.
You've invested in beautiful new floors — congratulations! Now the key is keeping them looking great for years to come. Each flooring type has its own care requirements. Here's our complete maintenance guide based on 20+ years of flooring installation experience.
Sweep or vacuum regularly with a soft-bristle attachment to remove dirt and grit that can scratch the finish. Use a damp (not wet) mop with a hardwood-specific cleaner. Place felt pads under furniture legs, use rugs in high-traffic areas, and keep pet nails trimmed. Avoid steam mops, vinegar-based cleaners, and excessive water — they can damage the finish and warp the wood.
LVP is one of the easiest floors to maintain. Sweep or vacuum regularly, and mop with warm water and a mild cleaner when needed. While LVP is waterproof, don't let standing water sit for extended periods. Avoid abrasive scrubbers and harsh chemicals. Place doormats at entrances to catch dirt and debris.
Tile itself is nearly indestructible, but grout requires attention. Sweep regularly and mop with a pH-neutral tile cleaner. Clean grout lines periodically with a grout cleaner and brush. Consider sealing grout every 1–2 years to prevent staining and moisture absorption. Wipe up spills promptly to prevent grout discoloration.
Laminate and water don't mix. Use a dry or barely-damp mop, and wipe up spills immediately. Sweep or vacuum regularly, and use furniture pads to prevent scratches. Never use wax, polish, or steam cleaners on laminate — they can cause permanent damage to the wear layer.
No matter what type of flooring you have, these tips apply: use doormats at every entrance, remove shoes when possible, clean up spills quickly, and rearrange furniture occasionally to prevent uneven fading from sunlight. A little regular maintenance goes a long way.
